Rough week
yo man Long time ago, at least 25 years now, I've heard Rainier could also awaken. If it had been Rainier instead of Helens in 1980 there'd be no Seattle and many more dead. Of course that all relies on eruption size and blast direction. Portland was spared because it was a northward latteral blast. If you dig for archive news about Helens it was a circus atmosphere, so many people mocked science and the mountain. Afterward, the governor got the blame for the two tier danger zone. All she did was follow recommendations of the scientists. The scientist didn't expect the latteral blast, their zones were based on debris flow from runoff, not a huge eruption. Now, if Rainier awakens and threatens to eript will people evacuate the Seattle metro area? Up to 15 years ago, yes, but today, no. I think most will stay. I think people would fear squatters, looters, vandals on their properties and homes, and being victimized and price gouged while traveling. Many people don't have a way to travel or the money to do it with. A volcano is not a hurricane you can watch get closer, turn, or fizzle out, where you can leave for a week and come back. It took two months for Helens to go after the first warning. I don't know if there are relocation centers but that's something that should have been figured out years ago on a national level.
