yo man I've seen articles about off-grid living on your private land is illegal. A sheriff evicted a man and condemened his house for generating his own electricity, purifying his own well water, disposing responibly his own gray and black water, and his trash which was minimal. The city said residents must buy all the utilities (water, sewer, electric, sanitation, mail). But get this, you are mandated to buy all these on-grid services, but you are discouraged from using these services because the grid and environment can't handle it. Turn off that light, take shorter, colder showers, reduce waste, send less letters. So people cut back to "save the grid" and save some money and save the planet, but the government then raises the cost of these mandated utilities because they're not making enough money after telling us to stop using them. You can't drop the service, you'll be fined, evicted, and condemned. The great blackout in winter 2021, power was off for 2 hours, the electric bill was thousands of dollars. Well, they corrected that specific bill after some political pressure, however, the monthly rate drastically increased. We're still paying for the 2021 failure. The state also encouraged home solar panels to ease the burden on the grid and save electric bill money and even sell back surplus electricity. Well that backfired when the power company started losing money so the home solar plan was discouraged and owners penalized. The cycle continues. You will buy what the government tells you or be punished, you will not use the service too much or you will be punished. For not using enough of the service enough you will be punished with a rate hike. Government pretends to punish the utilities by imposing billion dollar fines, but they only jack the rates up for consumers. That's robbing Peter to pay Paul, but the electric company and the government are incahoots. BTW, I wear a size 40 straight jacket.
