It doesn't matter what precautions you take on your end, the website has to take precautions on their end. Even if your bank and credit card institutions are on top of fraud protection, your identity is still lifted and is on the dark web. Even the websites with security protocols and encryption protection are vulnerable.

I guess this can be summed up as, if you're going to swim with the sharks, expect to get bitten, even if you're wearing chain mail in a cage with a spear gun. On the flip side: I am not a basement dweller. I get out into the world. I accept risk and mitigate that risk. Sometimes I find myself in situations, but so far there's not one I couldn't get out of. Making a mistake is nothing to be ashamed of, it's how you recover from those mistakes.
