Back in my active Army days during field training a master sergeant said there's only two things he needs in the world. You could drop him naked in a desert, or anywhere remote, just give him a SINCGARS radio and a pair of boots. With a SINCGARS you can call for rescue, call in an air strike, talk to other units, talk to aircraft. The worst about SINCGARS is getting broken hand mics or antennas, or batteries that don't hold a charge, but overcome those, the radio itself was always solid. Durable, dust and water proof to a point.
